PROBLEM
The main concern of Management for Gaisano Mall of Davao is their electrical costs and the heat brought about by direct transmission of sunlight in their Atrium area. Existing problems of water leaking in the same area has also been a problem. More so, the exposed skylight system was made of glass which causes increase in temperature which results to discomfort of mall goers especially during afternoon. |
SOLUTION
A 2-inch spray-up Ecofoam Polyurethane Insulation foam was applied in the entire diameter of the exposed atrium roofing, painted with elastomeric paint for the UV protection of mall goers. In addition, solid polycarbonate skylight sheets were recommend to replace the glass skylight because of the insulation properties of such material. Based on actual evaluation, temperature in the mall has considerably lowered compared to previous period despite of existing extreme climate change. Heat transfer was controlled in terms of radiation and conduction brought about by the effective thermal insulation capabilities of both polyurethane foam and polycarbonate sheet. |
